State Police Captains and Lieutenants Finally Vote To Ratify First Contract!

On Friday evening, March 16, 2012, State Police Captains and Lieutenants cast their ballots to ratify their first ever contact with the State of Connecticut.  “It’s been a long time coming.” said State Police Lieutenant Ed Gould and president of the bargaining unit.  “This has been something we’ve been trying for since 2004 and now it’s 2012.  We voted to join the union in 2007 and the state fought us all the way to the State Supreme Court.  We’re all relieved to get some closure on this issue and move on doing our jobs, protecting and serving the people of Connecticut.”

Collective Bargaining Rights For Family Child Care Providers

The fight to win collective bargaining rights for family childcare providers has been in full swing the past few weeks.  Unfortunately, a Republican led filibuster during the final meeting of the Labor & Public Employees committee prevented a vote on either the bill granting family child care providers collective bargaining rights, or a similar bill for  personal care attendants (PCAs), who care for seniors and people with disabilities in state-funded programs.

Change in Dues Structure to take effect Jan. 1st.

On January 1st, 2012, the final step in our three-year phase-in of a more progressive dues structure for active members will take effect. This increase will be included in the first paycheck of January 2012. Originally announced by the Union’s Executive Council in January of 2009, this plan was approved after more than two years of discussion. These important changes will strengthen our union by giving us the resources to better represent members and continue to fight for workers rights in these difficult economic times.
